Two codes of rugby combine to pay tribute to Past Player, Friend and Family member Kyle Morley who sadly passed in February 2020.
Kirkburton Cougars, a Huddersfield based rugby league team will take on Pontefract RUFC in a cross-codes game next Friday 27th August at Lepton Highlanders Sports and Social Club, HD80LX. This cross-codes game of rugby will see the first half of the game played to the rules of rugby league, with the second half of the game played under the jurisdiction of the rugby union code. The game will be played in memory of Kyle Morley who sadly passed away in February last year and represented both clubs at both codes. The game was first planned to take place last summer, but unfortunately Covid did not allow for this to happen.
Entrance is £2 into the game and it will be followed with further entertainment, a live band @smokingluckofficial , BBQ and many raffles and other fun fundraising events as well as guest speakers from Platform 1 Men’s Mental Health Charity.
Kirkburton Cougars are already partnered up with the local Charity and this is where all the proceeds from the night will be donated. Speaking to Kirkburton Cougar’s Chairman Ryan Johnson ahead of the match he said: “I have known about Platform 1 for a couple of years now and I am amazed at the work they do amongst the local community, so when choosing a charity to partner it was a very easy choice for us.
As a club we bang the drum about mental health with the lads all the time, we try to ensure that there is always someone to speak to and we feel that events like this are very important to raise awareness regarding Men’s Mental Health especially under the current circumstances. Kyle Morley was a dear friend to a lot of people involved at the club and also to all those involved at Pontefract RUFC, so it is an honour to tribute this game to his life.”
Both clubs and Kyle’s family would like to take this moment to thank all those that have donated prizes, money and time to such a great cause. We would love to see as many people at the event as possible and if anyone would like to get involved with further prizes, donations or volunteering, please contact Ryan on 07874 232465.
